  1. Sea Ray "Sea Rayder 120hp" or a Checkmate 16ft west/115hp ??? what to buy

I'm looking for a run-a-bout for Lk St Clair, I have a Inflatable Cat with a 30hp that's a smash merely its a little hard on the kidneys for longer rides.

I;m looking to spend 3-4k and have narrowed it down to these styles of boats.

    1: 1995 Sea Ray Ocean Rayder F-16 w/ a 120hp merc.
(I was told the 120Merc is a lemon)

    2:1987 Checkmate xvi.5 w/ a 115 Merc.

Both expanse close in price and size. I'grand trying to find something the kids will be able to apply and not go "to fast" with. Both around 40mph I guess.

    Any opinions?

  2. For the kids, I would become the Sea Rayder. Jet drive, no props to go cut on, and nigh likely more foregiving that the check. I had a 14" Regal jet as a first boat, and couldnt flip it. Non sure about the 120, but the xc I had was a Canis familiaris.

  3. I similar the jet gunkhole idea, but not sure about the 120hp Mercury power.. I have read cipher skilful nigh them.

But the outboard Checkmate would exist overnice also, the kids take been effectually boating for virtually there lives and they are 13 & xiv now. Plus they wont exist running the boats solo until I'yard 100% sure they are comfortable and confident behind the bike. (just kids will still be kids)

  4. The 120 may be a forcefulness powerhead

  5. I had a Body of water Ray F16 with the 120. It was fun for spinning donuts, you could slam it reverse and submarine the olfactory organ, you could spin 180's and information technology was unsinkable...as a matter of fact; the cockpit would drain instantly but....it was hard to stear at speeds above 40, pulling wakeboards/kneeboards was bad-mannered because the skiier could pull the boat sideways and get in difficult to control..all in all a fun lake toy. I would lean more towards the Checkmate..meliorate handling, classic lines, skillful resale.. and you could make it Scream and Wing!!

It says "Sport Jet 120" assumed it was a Merc, but the more I read about them I see information technology was some Merc/Force hydrid crap motor.. from what people say.

But people only take a tendency to postal service the bad and non the good..

  7. If information technology was me I would get the Checkmate but I'grand an outboard guy and hate working on Bounding main Doo boats. JMO

I'm not a big fan of the sea-doo 720/800 motor either, thats why I started looking at the Sea Rayders with Mercury Ability-plants. I was under the impression they were just out-board motors

  9. Go the Checkmate. I got iii kids and no way would I go the Sea Rayder. That Checkmate will do everything you want information technology to do and that 115 is a adept motor.

  12. I picked upward a 1980 Checkmate w/115hp 6cyl.

Other than the paint looking a niggling faded its in not bad shape and I bought it from the original owner.

I Have a couple 2.5 OSR engines off my race cat thats being worked on.. wife did not think it was funny when I said I was bolting one upwards just to see how fast it goes. lol

  13. Growing up a friend had a sixteen checkmate with a 115 I retrieve
learned to ski on that boat and used to jump waves in the inlet later on definitely added some stress cracks but couldnt kill it

After my buddy bought my 150 xr4 and turn information technology from a docile lake gunkhole to a rocket

  14. Well I gave information technology a quick bathroom and pulled the interior and then it can be reupholstered. With whatever luck I should exist on the lake next weekend for a shake down examination.

beingness an sometime fart,I don't retrieve I'd want my children with one of these, they're inventive enough without the added opportunity! [and you know I was never like that!]

    why ask me ?
