Does your dog love liver? Did you know that liver is a training treat that's considered a "high-value" treat for dogs.

Dog trainers have long used dehydrated treats for dogs to help during training sessions. Have you ever been to a dog show and admired the well-behaved dog and his owner?

The dog keeps his eyes glued to the owner, ready to do whatever he needs and is asked to do!

At first, I used to think it was the pet's undying devotion to its master. But then I discovered it's the homemade dog training treats used to reward the dogs.

In visiting a local dog show, the trainer gave me the scoop on what he uses, something the dogs can't refuse. Training Treats!

Both my dogs are food motivated. They love nothing better than a high value training treat.

You can use anything your dog likes to eat , as long as you're changing it up to keep him or her interested in listening to you.

I love to dehydrate all kinds of meat, vegetables and homemade cookies for my dogs.

I know, you're probably scrunching up your face and saying "Ewww." I get it…Dogs have the opposite reaction – they love liver !

If the thought of liver is too disgusting, never fear, chicken , beef or turkey will work just as well.

How to Make Dehydrated Liver Treats

Ingredients:

1-3 lbs liver is the only ingredient! Dogs love it plain, so no unnecessary spices needed.

Is the idea of Liver totally disgusting to you? Here's a recipe to dehydrate chicken . HINT : For 3 lbs of thinly sliced liver.

Directions:

These should be cut in strips about 1" wide and ¼" thick.

To facilitate cutting, put the liver in the freezer until it is stiff but not frozen. It will make cutting it so much easier.

You will end up with about 20-25 strips.

After slicing place onto the dehydrator trays. Run the dehydrator for 4-6 hours, depending on how thin your slice of liver.

Pro Tip: Making liver in the dehydrator can cause the house to smell. If you don't like the smell of liver, try placing your dehydrator outside on the patio and let it run.

I have a covered patio, so placing the dehydrator and letting it run, sometimes overnight, is better than having the house smell.
